MT在美容護膚方面,具有六大特殊功效:
清除造成人體衰老氧自由基和羥基自由基，從而起到延緩皮膚衰老功能：機體內自由基的聚積是人體衰老的主要原因。
1、體內自由基主要有兩種：一種是羥自由基（·OH），另一種是超氧自由基（·O3）主要是由（·OH）轉而化來，MT對於這兩種自由基均有良好清除作用，尤其是對於（·OH）清除作用更好，而且MT結構親核性能與自由基結合，它清除自由基能力是SOD一萬倍， MT生物同源性好，不會有任何過敏反應。There are two main free radicals in the human body: hydroxide radical (·OH) and superoxide radical (·O3) which is transformed from (·OH). (5)解除重金屬毒害功能：MT半胱氨酸上—SH（巰基）高含量決定了它具有較強解除Hg（汞）、Pb（鉛）等有毒重金屬功能 。
每一個分子MT可結合實際4—7個重金屬原子，它結合重金屬離子能力是結合一般金屬離子能力1000倍，MT與重金屬離子結合後，會很容易地通過體內運轉功能而轉移出體外。
由於現代城空氣污染很嚴重，重金屬離子往往存在於汽車廢氣中，如果環境中重金屬離子含量過多則會造成中毒症狀。
MT富含半胱氨酸，半胱氨酸巰基全部能結合重金屬離子，如鋅、銅、鉛、鎘、銀、汞、鉍等，與金屬離子結合是可逆，能快速進行交換，當身體內某種金屬離子含量過大時，MT可結合它們，使其含量趨於正，若這種金屬離子含量過少時，MT 又能將其釋放出來，起著一種生理調節器作用，使皮膚恢復健康和自然。

MT與兒童鋅缺乏症
鋅是人體不可缺少的微量元素，具有極爲重要的生理功能，嚴重缺鋅造成的後果是不可想像的。
缺鋅（Zn）是通過檢查血液的鋅值來確定的。
小兒的正常鋅值爲13.95±1.81微摩爾/升。如果確診爲鋅缺乏症後，可根據缺鋅的程度給予治療，補鋅的一般傳統方法是用1%的硫酸鋅溶液或者使用葡萄糖酸鋅治療，但使用以上藥物普遍都有副作用，如噁心，嘔吐等，不能長期服用等缺點。
